Great Lakes Cancer Institute Academic Medical Center
www.glci.com/body.cfm?id=223
Michigan State University and McLaren Health Care formed and founded the Great Lakes Cancer Institute (GLCI) in 2001. Their vision and insight saw a future for mid-Michigan that included scientific cancer research, medical research, clinical trials, and the greatest minds, technology, people, and medical care. They envisioned hope for the advancement and treatment of cancer in their own communities. GLCI blends the resources of a Big Ten academic institution with the nation's 18th largest health care system. The result is a network of highly skilled, highly respected, physicians, scientists, researchers, and educators. Together, they represent a range of services, treatments, and clinical research, which previously was found only at traditional academic medical centers. The Institute’s vision is to demonstrate cancer leadership of national renown in our own communities; to provide the residents of Michigan with cancer information, education, and research; and ultimately, to translate research findings to patient care as rapidly as possible.
